KING TIDES

Soundwave NEXT is thrilled to present King Tides, an evening of musical performances and video by artists who live and work near coasts. This year we present an international dialogue between Italy and the Bay Area- two regions that owe much of their culture to oceans. Like the king tides which occur when the orbits and alignment of the earth, moon, and sun combine to produce the greatest tidal effects of the year, artists and creatives often preview how our cultural landscapes will change and evolve.  As sea levels continue to rise across the globe, artists across borders must strengthen our networks and deepen solidarity in order to address the climate issues of our time.

Featured Artists

  • ⁄handlogic

⁄handlogic is an experimental pop project born in Florence, Italy in 2016.

From its inception, it gained prominence in the national underground scene thanks to its victory in several nationwide contests and to the debut EP receiving excellent feedback from the music press (Mucchio Selvaggio, Rumore, Blowup, La Repubblica). The songs were described as “[…] multiply inspired, with the experimental approach of trip hop, the refined sound of that R&B that refuses to conform to market models […] all of it coordinated by a sensibility for interlocking sounds and jazzy exchanges between instruments”.

  • Tauwoo

As a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Tauwoo dives deeply into the emotive world that a song offers. His sound is diverse, drawing inspiration from West African, Middle Eastern, and Indian rhythms as well as bands like Radiohead, Photay, Bonobo, and Patrick Watson. He loves collaborations with other creatives and strives to express an emotion in its truest form.

  • Dario Slavazza

Composer and producer Dario Slavazza lives on a sailboat in San Francisco’s North Bay. He works as a music curator for global brands such as FitBit, Obe, and Asics, and leads water excursions for first-timers. A voracious reader, especially of the philosophical implications of entropy, he is also a classically trained saxophonist and recording studio engineer. His sound and visual art are largely inspired by renaissance sculpture, the impressionist and new wave cinema.
